Moïse Kisling (1891–1953) was a painter born in Poland and one of the most distinctive figures associated with the École de Paris. He settled in Paris in 1910 and became part of the artistic community of Montparnasse, where he worked alongside many of the leading modern artists of the early twentieth century.
Kisling developed an immediately recognisable style defined by precise contours, luminous colour and carefully balanced compositions. He is particularly renowned for his portraits, often characterised by elongated faces, almond-shaped eyes and a sense of quiet psychological intensity. He also explored the nude, still life and landscape, combining classical elegance with the modern spirit of interwar Paris.
His drawings and graphic works reflect the same refinement and sensitivity found in his paintings. Through graceful lines, carefully modelled forms and close attention to the human figure, Kisling created a highly personal visual language that secured his place among the leading artists of the École de Paris.
