Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979) was a pioneering figure of modern abstraction, celebrated for her vibrant use of colour, geometric form and rhythmic composition. Together with Robert Delaunay, she developed Simultanism, an artistic approach based on the dynamic interaction of contrasting colours and the visual sensations they create.
Her practice extended across painting, printmaking, illustrated books, textiles, fashion and interior design, reflecting her belief that art should form part of everyday life. Delaunay drew inspiration from modern cities, movement, music and technological progress, translating these influences into bold compositions of circles, arcs and intersecting planes.
Her lithographs, pochoirs and other works on paper preserve the energy and clarity of her distinctive visual language, combining carefully structured forms with a powerful sense of movement and chromatic harmony.
