Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) was one of the pioneers of abstract art and a leading figure of European modernism. He explored how colour, line and form could express emotion and inner experience without relying on recognisable subjects.
A founding member of the Blue Rider group, Kandinsky later taught at the Bauhaus, where he developed influential ideas about composition, colour theory and the relationship between art and music. His work evolved from expressive landscapes and figurative scenes toward increasingly abstract compositions combining geometric and organic forms.
His lithographs, woodcuts and other works on paper reflect the same distinctive visual language found throughout his paintings. Dynamic lines, vivid colours and carefully balanced forms create a sense of movement, rhythm and spiritual intensity.
