In Herbes d’été from the 1967 Haï-Ku series, Joan Miró transforms the spirit of poetry into a visual composition. Miró had long been close to poets and writers, and his art often works like a poem: reduced, symbolic, rhythmic, and open to interpretation. The title, meaning “Summer Grasses,” suggests something light, seasonal, and fleeting. Rather than illustrating grasses directly, Miró evokes their atmosphere through signs, movement, and color. The work reflects his mature lithographic language: simple forms, strong contrasts, and a sense of spontaneity. Like a haiku poem, the image appears minimal at first, yet it invites slow contemplation.
