Victor Vasarely (1906–1997) was an artist born in Hungary who later settled in France and became one of the leading figures of Op Art. Through his systematic exploration of geometry, colour and visual perception, he developed a distinctive approach that transformed the flat surface into an illusion of movement and spatial depth.
His work is characterised by repeated geometric forms, carefully structured patterns and precise contrasts of colour. Squares, circles and optical distortions create compositions that appear to expand, contract or vibrate, actively engaging the viewer’s perception.
Working across painting, printmaking, sculpture and architectural projects, Vasarely sought to connect art with modern life and make it accessible beyond traditional museum settings.
